The longest day of the year calls for something worth the candle. Here's what we'd watch this weekend.
The One That'll Take Over Your Summer
The White Lotus (HBO/Max)
If you haven't seen either season yet, you have a magnificent weekend ahead of you. An anthology series set at luxury resorts, following wealthy guests and the staff who serve them. Dark, funny, gorgeous to look at, and stacked with great performances. Season 1 is set in Hawaii, Season 2 in Sicily. Both are essential. Season 3 is currently airing in Thailand and delivering.
Best for: Anyone who likes people-watching turned into art. Couples, solo, any energy level.
The Shorter Commitment
Fleabag (Prime Video)
Twelve episodes across two seasons, each about 25 minutes. A sharp, funny, devastating show about a woman who is not okay pretending to be okay. Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote and stars. You can watch the entire thing this weekend and you absolutely should. One of the best things to come out of television in the last decade, full stop.
Best for: Solo viewing, anyone who appreciates writing, people who like to cry-laugh.
The Documentary
Free Solo (Disney+)
Alex Honnold climbing El Capitan in Yosemite without a rope. A documentary about obsession, fear, and what it means to do the thing you were built to do. Even if you're not interested in climbing, this film will make your palms sweat and your chest tighten in the best possible way. One of the great sports documentaries.
Best for: Weekend afternoon viewing, anyone who likes watching people do extraordinary things.
