Weekend Picks: The Quiet Ones Worth Your Time

Not every great show announces itself loudly. This week's picks are the ones that reward you for slowing down.

Spring is settling in and there's something to be said for a weekend with no agenda — no blockbuster to catch, no buzzy season finale to keep up with. Just good television, watched at your own pace. These three picks are all shows that benefit from exactly that kind of attention.

The One You've Probably Heard About but Haven't Started

Severance (Apple TV+)

Employees at a mysterious corporation undergo a procedure that separates their work memories from their personal ones — meaning the version of you at work has no memory of your life outside, and vice versa. Season 2 just wrapped and delivered one of the most talked-about finales in recent memory. If you've been waiting to start until it was further along: now is the time. This is the show everyone is going to be talking about for the next few years.

Best for: Anyone who has ever felt like a different person at work than they are at home.

The One That Flew Under the Radar

Bad Sisters (Apple TV+)

A dark comedy about four Irish sisters who conspire to murder their sister's abusive husband — and we know from the first episode that he ends up dead, so the suspense is about how and who gets blamed. It's funny and tense and surprisingly moving and Sharon Horgan is exceptional. Won't spoil anything else. Just watch it.

Best for: Anyone who likes genre-blending, strong ensemble casts, and dark humor that earns it.

The Documentary Pick

My Architect (Available to rent)

An architect's son makes a film about his father — the visionary but deeply complicated Louis Kahn, who had three separate families, none of whom knew each other. A film about fathers and legacy and buildings and grief. One of the great documentaries about an artist and what it means to know someone. A different kind of weekend watch that will stick with you.

Best for: Sunday afternoon viewing. Something to sit with.
